How to pay with crypto in Nigeria

Paying with crypto in Nigeria usually means one of three things: paying everyday bills from crypto you hold, getting crypto to pay someone who asked for it, or turning crypto you were paid into naira. Yesa covers all three. Here is how each one works.

Yesa does not turn shops into crypto shops. If a business or website says it takes crypto, it sets the coins and networks it accepts; check those with it before you send anything.

Pay bills straight from your crypto

In the Yesa app you can pay airtime, data, electricity, TV and betting bills directly from your crypto. There is no need to sell first and wait for naira.

01

Update Yesa and open the bill

Paying bills from crypto is in the latest version of the Yesa app; update from your app store if you do not see it. Open the bill you want to pay: airtime, data, electricity, TV and betting.

02

Choose your crypto under Pay from

On the bill screen, the Pay from choice lets you pay from your crypto instead of your naira balance.

03

Enter the details and confirm

Fill in the phone number, meter, smartcard or account the bill needs, check them, and confirm.

You can still pay the same bills from your Yesa naira balance if you prefer; the Pay from choice is where you pick. If you do not see it, update the app from your store.

This guide explains how to move and sell crypto you already hold. It is not a view on whether to sell, hold or buy any coin, and nothing here is financial advice.

Need crypto to pay someone? Buy it with naira

If a person or a service asks to be paid in crypto, you can buy it in Yesa with naira and send it on. Yesa sells ten coins: USDT, USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, Solana, TRON, Litecoin, Dogecoin and XRP. There are zero fees to buy, and you see how much of the coin you get before you confirm. Pay from your Yesa naira balance or by bank transfer from an account in your name.

More on buying: how to buy crypto in Nigeria, buy USDT with naira and buy Bitcoin in Nigeria.

01

Ask for the coin, the network and the address

USDT and USDC travel on several networks. The person you are paying must tell you which one, and the address must be on that network. If they give a memo or tag, you need it too.

02

Buy a little more than the amount

Sending from your Yesa wallet to another wallet pays that network's fee, so the amount that arrives is a little less than the amount you send.

03

Send a small test first

For a large payment, send a small amount, ask them to confirm it arrived, then send the rest.

04

Keep the transaction hash

It is the receipt both of you can check on the network's explorer.

Got paid in crypto? Turn it into naira

If a client, an employer or a platform paid you in USDT, USDC, Bitcoin or another coin, sell it in Yesa and withdraw to any Nigerian bank account. Yesa buys USDT, Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), BNB, USDC, Litecoin (LTC) and TRON (TRX). The exact naira amount is on your screen before you confirm, and there are zero fees to sell.

For USDC, Yesa accepts Ethereum (ERC-20), Solana, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), Base and Arbitrum. For other coins, your Yesa deposit screen is the final word: send only on a network it lists, and send a small test amount the first time. A coin sent on a network the screen does not list can be lost.

Paying with crypto: common questions

Can I pay bills with crypto in Nigeria?

Yes, in the Yesa app. On the bill screen for airtime, data, electricity, TV and betting, choose your crypto under Pay from and confirm. It is in the latest version of the Yesa app, so update from your app store if you do not see it.

What does paying with crypto mean in Nigeria?

Usually one of three things: paying bills from crypto you hold, buying crypto with naira to pay someone who asked for it, or selling crypto you were paid for naira in your bank. Yesa does all three.

How do I get crypto to pay someone?

Buy it in Yesa with naira. Yesa sells USDT, USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, Solana, TRON, Litecoin, Dogecoin and XRP, with zero fees to buy. Then send it from your Yesa wallet to the address they give you, on the network they name, and send a small test first.

Can I pay in shops with crypto through Yesa?

Yesa does not make shops take crypto. If a business accepts crypto, it chooses the coins and networks; ask it, then buy and send from your Yesa wallet if they match what Yesa sells.

I was paid in crypto. How do I get naira?

Send it to your Yesa deposit address on a network the screen lists, sell it at the naira amount on screen, and withdraw to any Nigerian bank account. Yesa buys USDT, Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), BNB, USDC, Litecoin (LTC) and TRON (TRX).

Is it legal to buy and sell crypto in Nigeria?

Yes. Buying, holding and selling cryptocurrency is legal for individuals in Nigeria. Digital assets are recognised under the Investments and Securities Act 2025, and the Securities and Exchange Commission regulates digital asset services. Crypto is not legal tender, and profits from trading may be taxable, so keep your own records of what you buy and sell. This is general information rather than legal or tax advice; the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria publish the current position.

How fast will the naira reach my bank?

Across 1,700 measured bank payouts on Yesa, the median payout time was 4.7 seconds. These are historical measurements, not guarantees. The on-chain part, your crypto reaching Yesa, comes first and depends on the network you send on.
