What this number means

Nigeria has two dollar prices. The official reference rate is set in the regulated foreign exchange window. The market rate is what people actually pay when they need dollars now, and since most of that trading moved on-chain, the USDT to naira rate has become its clearest public signal. The tracker publishes the gap between the two, every day, from the same live data Yesa prices from.

A widening premium usually signals tightening dollar supply; a narrowing one signals the opposite. This page is a public data reference, not investment or financial advice. The premium is measured against the indicative market rate, which is not what a seller receives: the rate Yesa pays is on each coin's rate page.

Questions

What does the naira premium measure?

The percentage gap between the official USD/NGN reference rate and the rate dollars actually change hands at in the market, measured daily through the USDT to naira rate. A positive number means the market pays more naira per dollar than the official rate.

Why use USDT to measure the parallel rate?

USDT is a dollar stablecoin and has become the most liquid way dollars trade in Nigeria, so its naira price is a continuously updated, publicly observable signal of real dollar demand.

How often is this page updated?

Every morning at 09:13 West Africa Time, from the same live market data that powers Yesa's rate pages, alongside a public interbank reference feed for the official side.
